LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab government has decided to contact Election Commission (EC) to present suggestions in the amendments regarding local bodies election, Dunya News reported on Sunday.

The decision was made while keeping in view issues which occurred during the LB-poll in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

According to sources, Punjab government will request the EC to decrease the amount of ballot paper and will suggest minimizing the number from six to two.

On the union council level, one ballot paper for the councilors and one for the vice chairman will be recommended.

Rather than individual competitions, those coming on first six numbers will be proposed to elect councilors.

Punjab government is of the view that six ballot papers confuse the voter and take more time to cast the vote.

Besides this the government also intends to recommend conducting LB polls on the pattern of cantonment elections.

Like cantonment polls, nominated councilors will choose other councilors on special seats.

If EC gave approval of government’s recommendations then legislation will be carried out before July 28.
