Terming Zardari's statement as anti-army unfair: Qamar Zaman Kaira

Summary Zardari told 'some institutions' that they should stick to their mandate, what’s wrong?, asks Kaira

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira has on Thursday said that the statement by Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari was misunderstood. He said that it was unfair to term Zardari’s statement as anti-army. “Zardari only told ‘some institutions’ to stick to their mandate only. How does it imply that Zardari was referring to army?” questioned Kaira, reported Dunya News.

Holding a press conference in Islamabad, former Information Minister said that Zardari’s statement was criticized without knowing the context of his speech. He said that the PPP always worked for strengthening the institutions. “How was it conceived that Zardari was speaking against army?” he questioned.

Kaira said that those criticizing Zardari should also look into what they have been doing. “It is necessary to define the civil-military relationship”, he said. He said that the PPP never feared anyone in the past nor will it ever fear anyone in future.

“We know that there are certain issues on the borders and we don’t want to create any problems for the army”, said the former minister. “Is Sindh the only province with issues?” he questioned.

“I fear that the government wouldn’t be able to survive another shock now”, said Kaira.
