Summary First phase of inquiry will determine whether NADRA could buy the necklace directly

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Dunya News has obtained documents pertaining to the necklace gifted by First Lady of Turkey for the relief of flood victims in 2010. Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) has summoned former Board of Directors of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for investigation, reported Dunya News on Wednesday.

First Lady of Turkey had donated her precious necklace for the aid for flood victims in 2010. The necklace was bought at 1.6 million rupees on the direction of former Chairman NADRA Ali Arshad Hakeem.

The sum of 1.6 million rupees was disbursed to facilitate 8 couples in district Dadu who were victim to the 2010 flood.

The disbursed funds were handed out in forms of cheques which were distributed in presence of provincial Minister Pir Mazhar ul Haq.

Chaudhary Nisar has directed FIA to launch inquiry as to how the necklace went missing from NADRA’s possession.

FIA has summoned former Chairman NADRA as well as former board of directors to investigate the matter.

The first phase of inquiry will determine whether NADRA could buy the necklace directly.

Government protocol dictates that gifts belong to title of PM rather than individual himself

Defending the legality of keeping the necklace in his possession, former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has said that receiving gifts from foreign head of states is a routine matter for Prime Ministers.

However government protocol dictates otherwise as the gifts belong to the title of Prime Minister rather than the individual himself.

FIA investigation will also determine whether Yousuf Raza Gillani had the right to keep the necklace in his possession in the first place.
