ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said execution of death row convicts is being carried in accordance with the country s law and constitution.
He gave these remarks while referring to the concerns expressed by the European Union on the capital punishment.
Talking to journalists in Islamabad, the Interior Minister regretted the hue and cry on the revival of capital punishment saying a propaganda campaign has been unleashed to make it controversial.
He said a negative campaign carried out across the globe by showing a childhood photograph of Shafqat Hussain, a death-row prisoner whose family claims was just 14 years old when he was convicted of killing a 7-year-old.
Chaudhry Nisar clarified that no juvenile is being sentenced. He said Pakistan respects the laws of other countries and expect the same from them.
To a question regarding action against an NGO, he said the government is framing a policy to bring the International NGOs under the domain of the country s law and constitution.
He made it categorically clear that any domestic or international NGO pursuing the foreign agenda against the national interests will not be allowed to operate.
The Interior Minister however, said that the country welcomes the NGOs engaged in public welfare projects.
