Summary Order was issued after the death of two brothers by police firing in Rawalpindi

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Inspector General (IG) Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera issued new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on Thursday for the check-post duties of the Punjab police. The order was issued after the death of two brothers by police firing in Rawalpindi.

According to the new SOP, the policemen appointed on check-post will work in 8 hours shifts and all of the policemen would need to wear bullet proof jackets and plastic helmets. The SOP stated that policemen will not be authorized to open fire on the people who do not stop on the check-post, instead they should be followed by the police. Police will only be authorized to open fire in self defence.
