PM concerned over Mian Iftikhar's arrest, summons report

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed concerns over arrest of Awami National Party’s (ANP) Central General Secretary Mian Iftikhar and summoned reports from Inspector General (IG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and investigating agencies.

According to details, PM has directed the authorities to treat political figures with respect as mandated by the law. He also sought reports from Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other security agencies over murder of PTI worker in firing amid clashes.

Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has also expressed concerns over the arrest of the ANP leader and hoped for ‘timely’ and ‘transparent’ investigation.

He directed Home Secretary to immediately seek report from the provincial government.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid also strongly condemned the arrest and said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the ruling party in the province, has set worst example of political revenge.

He said it has been ‘proven’ that KP police and administration act as tools for PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that handcuffing Mian Iftikhar depicts ‘dictatorial thought’ of Imran Khan, adding that those claiming of keeping police apolitical have been exposed.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari has also strongly condemned the incident and said that Mian Iftikhar’s arrest is an act of political vengeance of PTI.

Mian Iftikhar was presented before magistrate earlier today who remanded Iftikhar into custody for one day.
