DASKA: (Dunya News) – Clashes between police and lawyers turned deadly in Daska on Monday when police opened fire at the lawyers, killing 2 lawyers. Outraged lawyers set out to protest torched DSP’s house, TMA and AC Zulfiqar Bon. Chief Justice Lahore High Court also took suo moto action on the incident.


Chief Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Siraj ul Haq condemned the Daska incident. Talking to media, JI chief said that independent investigation should launched to delve deeper into the matter. 

He criticized the opening of fire on bare handed lawyers.

Sources: Shehzad Warriach had already absconded to Dubai in a 2006 case after alleged torture of a prisioner who died under investigation.

Shehzad Warriach had reached ‘truce’ after allegedly pressuring the opposing parties. He was reinstated by government afterwards.


Daska: Additional contingent of police force has been demanded to establish law and order.


Lahore: Chaudhary Sarwar, former governor of Punjab, has said that that police and incumbent government have failed so far to establish peace and order.


 Protesters torched a bus stop in Daska.


RPO Gujranwala also talked to media on this occasion. Responding to a question, RPO Gujranwala said that police did not fail in containing the situation. It happened only because police showed restraint. When asked whether Rangers could be deployed or not, he said that all options including deployment of Rangers would be utilized in case the situation got out of control.


Responding to CM Khattak s statement, former Law Minister Punjab Rana Sanaullah said that this was not the time for point-scoring. He said that such isolated incidents may take place and mountain should not be made out of a mole.

CM Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) Pervez Khattak talked to Dunya News exclusively and said that Punjab government shouldn t have given the police free hand. He said that KP police reforms must be followed by the Punjab government as well.


Chief Justice Lahore High Court has taken a suo moto action on the incident and has ordered not to deploy police security outside the courts on Tuesday since the lawyers are already angry and the clashes may get uglier in case of any mischief from any of the sides. CJ also directed to deploy Rangers outside Lahore High Court and in Daska to keep law and order in the city.


Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab have taken notice of the issue and have demaded immediate reports on the matter. CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has ordered judicial inquiry of the matter.


Punjab Assembly adopted the resolution against the police brutality and demanded strict action against the culprits involved.


Situation in the Daska city is tense right now and markets have been closed. Protesters have blocked roads and markets. According to information, cases against the SHO and 5 other police officers involved in the incident have been registered.


According to District Police Officer (DPO), SHO Shehzad Waraich has been arrested.


Protesters set even the personal residence of Assistant Commissioner Daska. AC Daska Zulfiqar Bon fled along with his family to save their lives.


Lawyers also torched Tehsil Municipal Administration Office. Record was also set on fire on this occasion.


Lawyers  protest got further violent after these killing and, outraged, they torched the offices of DSP. Record was also set on fire on this occasion.


Later, another lawyer Advocate Arif Chohan also succumbed to injuries in District Hospital Gujranwala.


President Daska Bar Rana Khalid Abbas was shot dead on the spot while 5 other lawyers got injured.


Lawyers then moved towards police station where the situation worsened. Protests got violent and police started teragas shelling and firing to disperse the angry lawyers.


The clashes that started a week ago between police and lawyers in Daska, turned violent today. Lawyers had gone to see TMO to complain about the police officers’ behavior but TMO called in police there. Harsh words were exchanged between the lawyers and the police on this occasion.
