KARACHI (Dunya News) – In the ongoing spate of target killings in Karachi, Hyderabad jail superintendent Ejaz Haider was killed when unknown assailants opened fire on his car in Karachi`s Gulistan-e-Johar area today (Friday).

According to police, jail superintendent died on the spot and his wife sustained injuries after two motorcyclists wearing helmets opened indiscriminate fire on his vehicle.

Sindh Minister for Prisons Manzoor Wasan said Haider Ejaz was appointed Hyderabad jail superintendent two days back. He said those involved in the attack will be brought to justice.

Prime MInister Nawaz Sharif also condemned the incident and offered his condolences to the bereaved family. 

Karachi, a city of nearly 20 million people, has been plagued by sectarian, ethnic and political violence for years.

On May 10, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zulfiqar Zaidi was murdered along with his friend inside a restaurant in Shah Faisal Colony neighbourhood.

On May 1, DSP of Bin Qasim area Abdul Fateh was gunned down in Gulshan-e-Hadeed. He was on a routine patrol with his driver, constable Farooq, and a guard, constable Nazeer, when motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire on the vehicle they were travelling in.
