KARACHI (Web Desk) - An apex committee meeting to review the National Action Plan (NAP) was held at Karachi Corps Headquarters on Thursday, Dunya News reported.

The meeting took place a day after the barbaric terrorist attack on a bus carrying Ismaili community members in which 46 people were killed near Karachi`s Safoora Chowrangi.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Ishratul Ibad, DG ISI, Corps Commander Karachi, DG Rangers, IG Sindh and other top officials were present in the meeting.

The meeting reviewed ongoing operation to hunt down terrorists involved in heinous acts and directed the intelligence agencies to work together to exploit existing leads.

The participants stressed on continuation of across the board operations with increased tempo.

It was decided that indiscriminate action will be taken against criminals and their abettors.

A system would be developed to ensure strict checking at all the entry and exit points of the city.

The apex committee further directed the concerned authorities to keep an eye on all the financial channels from where the criminals and terrorists receive funds.

Steps would be taken for effective surveillance in vast suburbs of Karachi to prevent terrorist attacks in future.

The meeting also decided to appoint officials of various departments on merit to help the system sustain for longer term.

Wednesday`s terrorist attack was the second deadliest in Pakistan this year after 62 people were killed in a suicide bombing in late January.

Karachi, a sprawling city of roughly 20 million, has long had a reputation for high crime rates as well as ethnic, political and sectarian violence but the violence has fallen significantly since 2013 after police and paramilitary rangers launched a targeted operation.
