Summary It is a positive step by PML-N towards eliminating the sense of deprivation in South Punjab
LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has on Thursday appointed Senator Rafique Rajwana as the Governor Punjab. PML-N appointed Zulfiqar Khosa from Dera Ghazi Khan in 1999 as Governor Punjab and now, after 16 years, another politician from South Punjab has been appointed as Governor Punjab by PML-N. It is being taken as a positive step by the party towards eliminating the sense of deprivation in South Punjab, reported Daily Dunya.
Zulfiqar Khosa was appointed as Governor Punjab on 18 August, 1999 but was removed just after 62 days as Pervez Musharraf removed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government and took over the country.
Different names kept circulating in the media regarding this position and senior PML-N leaders including Rafique Rajwana (Multan), Saud Majeed (Yazman) and Zakia Shah Nawaz (Mianwali) but in the end, just 4 days before Supreme Court’s deadline (11 May), PML-N appointed Rafique Rajwana as Governor Punjab.
Rafique Rajwana is considered a die heart PML-N loyalist from Multan. He is the 8th governor of Punjab from South Punjab while the second only by the PML-N.
Since Rafique Rajwana has now become Governor of Punjab, lobbying within the PML-N has already started for the Senate seat vacated by him. Former PML-N MNA Saud Majeed and others have contacted PML-N leadership in this regard.
