Summary SSP Malir Rao Anwar presented a terrorist who claimed to have been MQM worker, trained by RAW

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – SSP Malir Rao Anwar on Thursday held a press conference in which he presented a self-confessed terrorist who confessed that he was a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker and had been trained in India by Indian intelligence agency RAW for carrying out terrorist activities in Karachi, reported Dunya News.

Resultantly, MQM also held a press conference, rubbishing all the allegations hurled at them by Rao Anwar and the terrorist he presented. MQM leader Wasey Jalil said that the accusations leveled at MQM by Rao Anwar were baseless and politically motivated.

Twitter was abuzz with the news and analysis almost immediately as the police officer called for banning MQM. It is unprecedented that a police officer holds press conference and asks for banning a political party in the country. While some believed that statements coming from a police officer were quite strong and deserved to be looked at seriously, there were others who said that Rao Anwar was doing it on the orders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership, to which Rao Anwar is considered close.

There were some who said that since the self-confessed terrorists presented by Rao Anwar had claimed to be MQM workers, there was no question of him telling a lie..

Others said that the press conference was so clumsy that it seemed like a deliberate attempt by Rao Anwar of sabotaging the operation in Karachi.

However, Wasey Jalil was in no mood to give this presser any currency at all.

Hasan Zaidi said that Rao Anwar was a popular character of 1990s  Karachi operation. He said that this press conference looked like coming straight from 1990s.

Some said it was to spoil MQM s resurgence after victories in Cantonment Local Body polls and NA-246 by-election. But they were unsure about who did it so left that part unsaid.

But there were others who seemed more convinced that it was by PPP and the objective was to counter MQM s demand for a new province in Sindh.

Some simply said that Rao Anwar had no credibility whatsoever to be holding such a press conference, let alone legal authority.

Talat Aslam said that this move was bound to prove counter-productive.

But, as always, there was humor. Samee Chaudhry believed that it was nothing short of a good  film .
