Summary Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was released on Thursday night on bail.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk / AFP) - In response to a question regarding the remarks of the Indian Spokesperson on the recent Lahore High Court order setting aside the detention of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said the case of Mumbai attack suspects is subjudice.

“It would not be proper to cast aspertions on Pakistan’s commitment to countering terrorism at a time when Pakistan has entered a critical stage of defeating the menace of terrorism,” the spokesperson said in a press release.

She further remarked: “As I had mentioned earlier also, inordinate delay in extending cooperation by India complicated the case and weakened the prosecution. We respect the judicial process and are confident that it would serve the interest of justice.”

Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, accused over the terror siege that left 166 dead in Mumbai in 2008, was released late on Thursday, according to an official at Adiyala Prison in Rawalpindi.

The release comes following nearly four months of wrangling over Lakhvi s detention after a judge granted him bail in December, sparking an angry response from New Delhi.

The government slapped Lakhvi with a series of detention orders but judges repeatedly cancelled them.

On Thursday the Lahore High Court ordered his release, conditional on a two million rupee ($20,000) bond.

Lakhvi and six other suspects have been charged in Pakistan, but their cases have made virtually no progress in more than five years.
