ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The joint session of Parliament has unanimously approved a 12-point resolution on Yemen crisis today (Friday), Dunya News reported.

Since Monday, the lawmakers have been discussing Saudi Arabia’s request to join the coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Saudi Arabia requested Pakistan for military aircraft, warships and soldiers.

The lawmakers today unanimously passed a resolution which stated Pakistan should maintain neutrality in the Yemen conflict and play a proactive diplomatic role to end the crisis.

"War in Yemen is not sectarian in nature but has the potential of turning into a sectarian conflict, which will have a critical fallout in the region, including Pakistan," the resolution stated.

The Parliament also called upon the warring factions in Yemen to resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue.

The resolution expressed serious concern on the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Yemen and its implications for peace and stability of the region.

It said the crisis in Yemen could plunge the region into turmoil and urged the Muslim Ummah and the international community to intensify their efforts to promote peace in Yemen.

The Parliament also expressed unequivocal support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and affirmed that in case of any violation of its territorial integrity or any threat to Harmain Sharifain, Pakistan will stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia and its people.

At the end, the resolution noted that the Government of Pakistan should initiate steps to move to the UN Security Council and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to bring about an immediate ceasefire in Yemen.
