Summary The joint session of the Parliament over Yemen crisis will be held today Monday in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The parliament’s joint session is underway over the ongoing Yemen conflict and Pakistan’s possible role in it. All political parties are due to participate in the session that will determine tilt of Pakistan’s foreign policy with regards to the Yemen crisis.

All political parties, including Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, are due to participate in the session that will determine tilt of Pakistan’s foreign policy with regards to the Yemen conflict.

This is for the first time that a session of this level has been summoned to determine Pakistan’s role in a foreign conflict. The political leadership is apparently divided over the scope of Pakistan’s involvement in the Yemen conflict after Saudi Arabia sought Pakistan’s help in the offensive.

The government has, however, already announced to defend Saudi Arabia in case it faces any security situation. The session has been summoned on demand of opposition parties and it will be decided during the session whether or not Pakistan will send its troops to Saudi Arabia.

As per the parliamentary sources, the political parties can also bring a resolution in this regard which will be tried to pass unanimously.

It merits mentioning here that parliament was not taken on board when Pakistan became a key ally of United States in war against terrorism, a move which is still criticized by right wing political parties to this day.

There have been joint sessions over operation against terrorists but this is unprecedented that a session of this level will determine Pakistan’s possible role in a foreign conflict.
