Summary Umair Siddiqui was presented before an anti-terrorism court on Saturday.

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Rangers spokesperson on Saturday claimed that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Umair Siddiqui and his accomplice Rehman Bhola were involved in Baldia Town factory fire which claimed lives of more than 250 workers in September 2012.

This was mentioned in a preliminary investigation report submitted by Rangers.

The report stated that Umair Siddiqui has also confessed to killing more than 120 people including nephew of an MQM leader.

The accused had formed a team of target killers, Rangers claimed.

Earlier today, Umair Siddiqui was presented before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi. 

During case proceedings, the defense lawyer told court that his client was subjected to third degree torture. He had been missing since September 2014 and a case regarding his disappearance is being heard at the Sindh High Court (SHC).

Rangers  law officer clarified that the accused was arrested during an operation in Azizabad area. It seems that they had submitted a petition in SHC in advance, he added.

Meanwhile, the suspect told court that he was arrested from Azizabad area at 4:30pm on February 15.

After hearing the arguments, the ATC has handed Umair in Rangers  custody on 90-day remand.
