Unverified mobile SIMs to be blocked by April 12: PTA Chairman

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Ismail Shah on Saturday has said that at least 7 crore Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) have been registered in the country while more than 1 crore have been blocked. He said that the deadline for registration of unregistered SIMs has been pushed to April 12.

He expressed these views in a press conference in Islamabad.

Shah said that the department has stepped into the third phase of registration of SIMs. He said that as many as 80,000 biometric machines have been set up in the country. He said that the Afghan SIMs in the country have been blocked.

The foreigners in the country are allowed to have only two SIMs in use at a time, he added.

PTA Chairman said that the blocked SIMs would not be registered under any citizen’s name for at least six months.
