ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri has emerged as strongest candidate for the post of deputy chairman of Senate after the government and opposition parties reached consensus on his nomination.

Opposition leader Khurshid Shah took Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif into confidence in a telephonic conversation on Thursday morning. The premier was informed that all political parties from Balochistan have given mandate regarding selection of the candidate to PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and he has decided to back JUI-F candidate for the seat.

In a meeting with PM Nawaz, Pakhstunkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai also endorsed JUI candidate.

Afterwards, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor submitted his nomination papers for Senate deputy chairman’s slot.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Shibli Faraz and BNP Mengal’s Jahanzaib Jamaldini and Nighat Mirza of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have also submitted their nomination papers for the election.

Polling will be held at 3:00pm today (Thursday).
