ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected Mumtaz Qadri s appeal against his death sentence today (Monday), upholding his conviction under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, Dunya News reported.
Meanwhile, the court has declared Qadri’s conviction under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act as null and void.
The division bench had reserved the verdict on February 11.
Former Punjab province Governor Salman Taseer was assassinated by his bodyguard Mumtaz Qadri in Islamabad s Kohsar Market on January 4, 2011. Taseer had been a vocal critic of Pakistan s blasphemy law.
In October 2011, an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi had handed down two death sentences for murder and terrorism to Qadri.
