ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The law enforcement institutions on Sunday took at least two suspects into custody from the outskirts of Islamabad after being tipped off about a possible terrorist attack on the Pakistan Day parade, Dunya News reported.

A cache of arms was recovered from the suspects and their physical remand has also been obtained.

The sources say that the security institutions carried an extensive search operation as part of the ongoing investigation of the deadly Qasr-e-Sakina imambargah attack that took place on February 19. Following the search operation, the two suspects Sagheer Ahmed and Raja Akbar were arrested.

At least six Kalashnikovs, three 7MMs, two pistols of 12 and 4 MP respectively and hundreds of bullets and ammunition were recovered from the arrested suspects.

The sources say that the suspects told the investigators that they had arrived to prepare an attack on Pakistan Day parade scheduled for March 23.

The police obtained two-day physical remand of the suspects after arraigning them in the local court. An operation might take place to hunt down more of their accomplices if the investigating authorities find more clues.
