Summary As many as three Pakistan People's Party (PPP) members will contest from Punjab

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The final list of candidates contesting for seats in the Senate has been issued on Saturday. As many as three Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) members will contest from Punjab while at least 36 candidates will contest for as many as four Federally Administered Tribal areas (FATA) seats.

According to the list, at least 131 candidates will contest for as many as 50 general seats and two minority seats in the Senate election which is going to be held on March 5. At least eight candidates will contest for at least two seats of Islamabad. Syed Nawab and Abdul Qadir from FATA will not contest in the election leaving as many as 36 candidates from FATA to contest for at least four seats. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to not take back additional nomination papers in Punjab for general seats in wake of several petitions under hearing.

Saud Majeed and Khawaja Mehmood have been asked to not withdraw their nomination papers. PPP’s Shaukat Basra has withdrawn his papers leaving as many as three PPP candidates in Punjab to contest for Senate seat. Moreover, as many as 16 candidates will contest for at least 11 seats from Punjab. At least seven candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) withdrew their nomination papers after which as many as 27 candidates will take part in the Senate election.

Furthermore, as many as six candidates from Balochistan have decided to not contest in the election resultantly 32 candidates will compete for as many as 12 seats. At least 12 candidates will contest from Sindh for 11 seats in Senate.
