PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – More than 40 National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) officials were suspended on Wednesday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for illegally issuing National Identity Cards (NICs) to Afghan refugees including the renowned “Nat Geo’s Afghan Girl” Sharbat Bibi.
Sharbat Gul, who migrated to Pakistan during Afghan War, and two of her sons were issued the NIC on April 17, 2014, which however have now been revoked after the news aired on media.

According to the sources, NICs were issued to several other Afghan refugees. After the scandal was brought to light, more than 40 NADRA officials including in-charge NADRA Center Hayatabad Palwasha Afridi were sacked and investigation was instigated thereof. A high level meeting in relevance to the predicament is also underway.
