Summary System was purchased in 2006 at a cost of 50mn USD yet it has only added to customers' problems
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) customers and staff are facing severe problems for the last two days as the central CRM of the bank named as Core Banking Solution (CBS) has crashed.
According to the details, the system was purchased at a cost of around USD 71 million to facilitate the customers but as it turned out, the system is extremely faulty and full of bugs. Sources privy to the matter told on the condition of anonymity that they suspected heavy corruption in purchase of the system as well.
A customer told that the system was out of order for the last two days and customers were facing problems in withdrawing amount from their accounts.
“Bank officials say they are also mentally disturbed with such a pathetic situation. Bank s centralized computer system called "Core Banking Application (CBA)" has been shut down from Karachi Head Office due to unknown reasons disabling all CBA branches to even pass a cheque and release payments to any of customers. All such ATMs are also dead and no payments are being disbursed from any channels”, customer told.
Long queues were observed at various branches of the bank on Monday and Tuesday as the customers waited for the system to start working. Customers demanded a quick resolution of the matter so that they were able to carry out their business as usual.
