ISLAMABAD (Dunya news) – Additional Secretary of Science and Technology Mohammad Ejaz on Monday presented a list of 23 religiously prohibited food items that are being served to Pakistanis for many years. The list was presented during a meeting of Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA). The Additional Secretary of Science and Technology also stated that 66% of the food items that are imported and sold throughout the country contain substances prohibited in Islam.
According to the details, the meeting of National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Science and Technology was presided over by Chairman Tariq Bashir Cheema in Islamabad. The Additional Secretary for Science and Technology then presented the list due to call for attention notice issued by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal’s (JUI-F) member NA Shahida Akhtar Ali. The list suggests that chicken corn syrup, fruit cocktails, gummy pizza, chicken tonight, tulip chicken, cup soup, pasta creamy chicken, strawberry leaf, Salma soap and others contain substances that are forbidden for eating in religion.
The Chairman of the Standing Committee upon hearing of this list stated that food items prohibited in Islam are being eaten in Pakistan for the past 66 years but nobody knows about it. He asked for forgiveness from Allah and questioned who was responsible for this act. Ejaz stated that no such department exists till now which can be held responsible. He stated that a bill for formation of Hilaal Authority has been sent to the Cabinet Division.
Chairman of Standing Committee has summoned Chief Secretaries and custom officials of 4 provinces in the next meeting. The next meeting of the standing committee will be held on 26th of the February.
