Summary Suicide vest has been diffused using by Pakistan Army's unit using sophisticated technology
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) -- At least three people have died and two other injured as result of firing and explosion outside Imambargah at Shakaryal Road area in Rawalpindi, Dunya News reported.
The explosion took place just as Maghribain prayers were being held at the mosque of Qasr-e-Sakina Imambargah. The preliminary report suggests that more than one suicide bombers entered in the Imambargah. The report adds that the initial explosion was result of a grenade attack and suicide bomber had failed to detonate his suicide vest.
The spokeswoman of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital Dr Ayesha told the press that two persons were already dead when brought to the hospital. She identified the deceased as Ghulam Hussain and Abdul Shukoor. Another person succumbed to injuries, rising the toll to three.
Dr Ayesha revealed that all the deceased died as result of firing and not the explosion.
During the intensive operation, the Bomb Disposal Squad successfully diffused the undetonated suicide vest. The situation is completely under control as per the security forces personnel.
According to the police and eye-witnesses, one suicide bomber attempted to enter inside the prayer house but was met with resistance from the security volunteers standing outside. The attacker then opened firing at the security volunteers which led to the closure of central gate of the mosque.
The attacker then threw a hand grenade and was killed in retaliatory firing by the security guard without getting the chance to detonate his suicide vest.
The eye-witnesses reported that the intense explosion was heard even in the areas ahead of the imambargah. The police cordoned off the area and the dead bodies and the wounded were rushed to the PIMS hospital.
The two injured are also in critical condition. They were identified by the hospital as Altaf Hussain and Sajid Ali Shah.
Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen, Shia Ulema Council and Tahaffuz Azadari Council, while strongly condemning the incident, announced day of mourning tomorrow (Thursday) and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Suicide vest diffused
The Bomb Disposal Squad of Pakistan Army has successfully diffused the suicide vest and removed it off the culprit.
According to the security sources, the suicide vest was diffused and removed off the attacker using sophisticated technology. The detonator was separated from the ammunition and the switch was turned off after extracting it from under the attacker’s body.
The security sources said that the fingerprints and eyeball of the attacker are safe which could enable identification.
