KARACHI (Dunya News) – As many as 172 Indian fishermen, released from District Jail Malir on Sunday as a goodwill gesture, left for India on Monday via Wagah Border by bus.

According to the details, 172 Indian fishermen reached Lahore Railway Station from Karachi and left for India by bus.

Indian fishermen, on arriving Lahore Railway Station, thanked Pakistan government for setting them free and requested government of India to follow suit and release Pakistani fishermen detained in Indian prisons.


Indian fishermen leave for India


Earlier, District Jail Malir had released 172 Indian fishermen on Sunday in Karachi.

According to sources, the government of Pakistan, out of goodwill, took the decision to release Indian fishermen from captivity.

Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) presented the traditional gift of Ajrak to the freed Indian fishermen.

Moreover, the fishermen will be transported to Lahore via train and will be handed over to the Indian authorities at Wagah Border.

The fishermen were caught violating the sea boundary of Pakistan and were later tried in courts.

The prisoners have now completed their term in jail whereas Indian authorities have given them clearance as well.
