Attack on doctors: YDA calls for protest across Punjab

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Doctors boycotted all the Outdoor Patient Departments (OPDs) across Punjab today (Monday) in protest against target killings and attacks on doctors in Sahiwal and Islamabad, Dunya News reported.

According to sources, doctors and paramedical staff of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) staged a protest against attacks on their colleagues while leaving their work symbolically.

The protestors also blocked the road for traffic and demanded the government to ensure the safety of the doctors. They demanded arrest of the culprits within 24 hours.

Moreover, the doctors also appealed to send Dr. Shahid Nawaz of PIMS Hospital abroad for medical treatment and to provide fool-proof security to the hospital.

Dr Shahid Nawaz, the head of the cardiology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), was shot and critically injured on the premises of the hospital on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on the call of Young Doctors Association (YDA), doctors across Punjab boycotted all OPDs and stated that the protest would be carried out on regular basis until arrest of the attackers.
