Islamabad: PIMS Hospital firing, Professor Dr Shahid critically injured

ISLAMABAD (Dunya news) – A firing incident in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital on Saturday left Department of Heart Disease’s head Professor Dr Shahid critically injured. Dr Shahid has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital where his life hangs in a balance. The culprit fled the scene of the crime after the shooting. The incident shows that even messiahs are not spared from such acts. After occurrence of such incidents in Karachi and Quetta, the shooting highlights that even doctors of the Federal capital are not safe. PIMS Hospital’s spokesperson Dr Wasim Khawaja informed on this occasion that Dr Shahid was shot on the left side of his head. He was shifted to the ICU after the surgery where he is being kept on a ventilator in critical condition. Dr Wasim Khawaja also stated that if the government was unable to provide security to doctors then they should be provided armaments. He also informed that a committee has been formed for investigation of the incident.

According to the details, all gates of the hospital were closed after the shooting and rangers were appointed. The police are on the lookout for the suspect.


Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan stated on this occasion that hunt for the suspects is still going on. Two suspects shot Dr Shahid.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of the firing incident and has demanded a report from the Interior Minister. PM Nawaz Sharif also ordered security of all major cities especially of Islamabad to be tightened up.
