Summary Many N-leaguers entered the building despite court's clear instructions to Speaker to appear alone.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq appeared before election tribunal in Lahore on Saturday to record his statement pertaining to rigging in constituency NA-122.
Speaker NA’s, two-page long, written statement suggests that elections in NA-122 were transparent. Nothing has been done that questions transparency of elections, he added. It further stated that he won by 8,500 votes in recount process.
Prosecutors of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan argued over the proposed statement.
Imran conducted my media trial for 128 days – Ayaz Sadiq
Talking to the media post-hearing, Ayaz Sadiq said that the case is sub judice in court and neither I nor Imran Khan is to give the verdict; Justice Kazim Malik is to decide in the light of evidence not desires.
He accused Imran Khan of conducting his media trial for 128 days without any proof. My status requires me to be unbiased and respectful; so I am, he told. He said that he has filed his petition before Allah and He shall do justice.
Ayaz Sadiq affirmed that he would retain his office as Speaker National Assembly till 2018 adding that voters and supporters on NA-122 had elected him for the third time. Court summoned lawyers of Ayaz Sadiq and Imran Khan on February 12 for final argument.
Earlier when Speaker NA reached the tribunal for hearing, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) workers gathered outside the election commission office and many entered the premises of the building despite court’s clear instructions to appear alone, without protocol.
Justice Kazim Malik told that the case proceedings would not continue unless the workers leave the premises upon which Ayaaz Sadiq advised his supporters to walk away; hearing begun once the court was cleared off.
