Summary A four-day campaign to administer polio drops to children below age of five is underway in Karachi.

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Anti-polio drive has resumed in Malir, East and West districts of the metropolis on second day today (Tuesday), Dunya News reported.

On the first day, polio drops were administered to 658,000 children below age of five. The vaccination campaign could not be carried out in 12 union councils due to security reasons.

Health authorities have set a target to inoculate 876,290 children in the three districts during four-day campaign.

Earlier on Monday, the campaign was suspended in District West after a policeman escorting polio vaccinators got injured in a gun attack in the Orangi Town area.

Pakistan is one of only three countries where polio remains endemic. Militants say polio teams are spies or that the vaccine causes infertility.

More than 60 polio workers or police guarding them have been killed in the country in the past two years. Last year, more than 300 polio cases were confirmed in Pakistan, the highest figure in 16 years.
