Summary The assembly holds the right to de-seat the members
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday has informed the National Assembly session about the absence of as many as ten Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members including, PTI chairman Imran Khan and PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi from the assembly for at least 40 days as the assembly holds the right to de-seat them.
Earlier, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi had told the assembly members about Khan’s 40-day absence. Later, on Monday (January 12) he mentioned as many as four names of PTI members including, Shafqat Mehmood, Munazah Hassan, Rai Hassan Nawaz and Ayesha Gulalai.
In the next session, the Deputy Speaker informed the session about the absence of at least five more PTI members from the assembly session for as many as 40 days. These members were Qureshi, Arif Alvi, PTI spokesperson Shireen Mazari, Amjad Ali Khan and Sajid Nawaz.
According to the rules, it is customary for the Speaker to inform the assembly members about the absence of any member for at least 40 days. However, the assembly holds the right to de-seat such member.
