Bills to amend Constitution, Army Act tabled in NA

Summary National Assembly will resume session at 4:00pm on Monday.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Pervaiz Rashid presented two bills in the National Assembly today (Saturday) including The Constitution (Twenty-First Amendment) bill 2015 and Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill 2015.

The minister also moved two motions to dispense with other business of the day to take into consideration the bills, which were approved by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

Ayaz Sadiq announced that the House will resume session at 4:00pm on Monday. The bills are expected to be introduced in the Senate on Tuesday.

Earlier on Friday, heads of parliamentary parties agreed on an amendment in the Army Act, 1952 for establishment of special courts for trial of terrorists.

After over five hours of their deliberations, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid told newsmen that a Constitutional Amendment would be made to give cover to the amendment in the Army Act.

The Minister said decisions at the meeting were taken with consensus.

The consultative meeting was attended by Co-Chairman PPP, Asif Ali Zardari, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, PTI Chief Imran Khan, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Muzaffar Hussain Shah of PML-F, Mehmood Khan Achakzai of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Sirajul Haq of JI, Afrasiab Khattak of ANP, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour of ANP, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain of PML-Q, Farooq Sattar of MQM, Hasil Khan Bizenjo of National Party, Aftab Sherpao of Qaumi Watan Party, Abbas Khan Afridi of FATA and Senator Kalsoom Parveen of BNP.

Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were also present in the meeting.
