Dense fog envelopes different areas, cold wave tightens grip

Summary Very cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country.

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Dense fog engulfed plains of Punjab, disrupting rail and air operations. The intense cold wave continued to tighten its grip, forcing people to stay indoors.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, dense foggy conditions are expected to continue over plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh in night and morning hours during the week.

Dense foggy conditions would continue in Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur divisions while foggy conditions in Sargodha, D.G. Khan, Peshawar, and Sukkur divisions during night and morning hours.

In Lahore, fourteen international flights and six domestic flights were delayed due to heavy fog. Road traffic moved slowly but there were no major traffic jams.

On the other hand, authorities have barred entry of heavy traffic on motorway, whereas, small vehicles are allowed to go.

Very cold and dry weather is likely to prevail in most parts of the country during next 24 hours, however, cloudy condition is expected in Malakand division and Gilgit-Baltistan, the Met Office reported. 

Temperature of major cities including Islamabad was recorded at 1°C, Lahore and Muzaffarabad 3 °C, Karachi 13°C, Peshawar 4°C, Quetta -4°C, Gilgit minus 6°C and Murree -1°C.
