ISLAMAB AD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of parliamentary leaders in Islamabad today (Wednesday) to finalise recommendations of the Anti-Terrorism National Action Plan Committee.
Asfandyar Wali, Mehmood Achakzai, Abdul Raheel Mandokhel, Sindh and Balochistan chief ministers were not present in today s meeting.
Earlier, the Committee after holding two lengthy sessions with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the chair in Islamabad thoroughly discussed proposals by joint working group and reached consensus over eight out of seventeen recommendations.
The proposals include establishment of counter-terrorism unit headed by the Prime Minister or strengthening of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NCTA). Counter terrorism and rapid response force to be deployed across the country. Matter of Afghan refugees should be resolved by taking all parties onboard.
Issue regarding return and rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) should be resolved at earliest. Criminal justice system should be improved.
The joint working group also emphasized over imposition of ban over armed wings, destruction of terrorists’ communication systems and counter use of social media as a propaganda tool by the extremist elements.
Meanwhile, the committee members could not reach consensus over establishment of military courts and reforms in madrassas, thus, this decision will be taken by the national leadership.
