KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has set the sugarcane price at Rs. 182 per 40 kilograms for the season. He expressed hope that the sugar mills will soon start the crushing process, Dunya News reported.

Holding a press conference in Karachi on Sunday, Qaim Ali Shah said that the government sets the price of sugarcane according to the law but sugar mill-owners had some reservations regarding the prices. He told that the new price has been set after consultation with the mill-owners.

Qaim Ali Shah hoped that the mill-owners will accept the new prices and soon start the crushing process. He said that the sugarcane produced in Sindh is juicier and therefore, the price has been set 2 rupees higher per kilogram. He told that the federal government used to set sugarcane’s prices in the past but this year it has asked the provincial governments to set the prices. He informed that the wheat price has been set at Rs. 1250 per 40 kg. “Sindh has exported two hundred thousand ton wheat”, he said.
