ECP, SC receive notification of new Chief Election Commissioner's appointment

Summary Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza is the current Chief Justice of Federal Shariat Court.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Supreme Court has received notification regarding Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan`s appointment as new Chief Election Commissioner, Dunya News reported on Friday.

As per notification, Justice (R) Sardar Raza will perform his duties as CEC for the next five years.

President Mamnoon Hussain had issued the notification on Thursday evening on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan’s name was finalized after the parliamentary commentary reviewed three names given by the government and opposition.

The parliamentary committee included representatives from Awami National Party (ANP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), however, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahryar Afridi did not appear on Wednesday.
