LONDON (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will address the London Conference on Afghanistan today.
Pakistan would be represented by Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz at the Ministerial Level Segment of the Conference holding thematic discussions regarding opportunities and challenges to greater regional cooperation in various areas.
He also attended the Regional Economic Dinner at the invitation of British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond.
At the dinner, Sartaj Aziz held fruitful discussions with a number of important participants on the agenda of the London Conference.
The participants discussed opportunities and challenges to greater regional cooperation in the areas of energy, transport connectivity, trade, transit trade, private sector development and job creation.
London Conference on Afghanistan is co-hosted by co-hosted by the governments of the UK and Afghanistan.
Events associated with the conference took place during the afternoon and evening of December 3 (Wednesday).
The conference intends to provide a platform to Afghan government to embark its vision for reform and for the international community to demonstrate enduring solidarity and support for Afghanistan. Discussions are likely to focus on security and big-ticket economic and governance reforms.
London Conference on Afghanistan is to continue for two days. British Premier David ftradeon called PM on October 28 and invited to participate in the conference this year. The conference is to be co-hosted by the UK and Afghan governments.
President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah would represent Afghanistan at the conference.
Prime Minister Nawaz would also hold bilateral discussions with the British leadership in addition to meeting with World Bank officials.
PM Cameron would host a breakfast meeting which would be attended by the Pm and Afghan leadership.
A bilateral meeting with John Kerry, United States Secretary of State has also been scheduled.
The Prime Minister’s participation in the London Conference would reflect the importance that Pakistan attaches to international efforts for peace, stability and economic development in Afghanistan.
