Summary Petition suggests canceling Mir Shakeel's license for the newspaper and channel.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Mehmood Akhter Naqvi on Friday submitted a petition at Supreme Court seeking to bring owner GEO Television and Jang Group Mir Shakeel ur Rehman back to the country through Interpol.
Petitioner stated that ATC Gilgit-Balistan sentenced Mir Shakeel and others accused to 26 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.3 million but he mustered help and absconded. It was therefore demanded to bring him and other absconders back to the country.
He further suggested canceling Mir Shakeel’s license for the newspaper and channel.
Federation, Secretary Information, Prime Minister, Mir Shakeel ur Rehman, Shaista Lodhi, Veena Malik and other were declared parties to the case.
Shakeelur Rehman on Wednesday fled the country after the ATC of Gilgit-Baltistan sentenced him to 26 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.3 million for broadcasting an alleged blasphemous programme.
According to sources, a government agency helped Rehman flew to Dubai in the morning through Emirates Airline.
Earlier, the court had given directives to Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, IG Punjab and IG Sindh to arrest Rehman through Interpol.
The ATC had also ordered to seize Rehman’s passport and property.
Rehman was accused of blasphemy after GEO Television broadcast a programme which allegedly insulted the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
