Summary PM Nawaz and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani held a joint press conference in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday assured that Islamabad will support Kabul s endeavors for peace, stability and prosperity.

Addressing a press conference along with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Islamabad, the Prime Minister remarked that the two countries face formidable challenges including terrorism.

“We can only effectively meet them collectively to exploit the full potential of cooperation,” he added.

Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed that peaceful, prosperous and united Afghanistan is in Pakistan s vital interest. He also reaffirmed support for intra Afghan reconciliation process saying this should be fully Afghan led and Afghan owned.

He said Pakistan is committed to upgrade cooperation in border security, defense, Afghan reconstruction, capacity building, parliamentary exchanges and cultural links.

“We have common goals and common joys. We grieve and rejoice together. Our security and future prosperity remains interlinked,” the Prime Minister said.

On the occasion, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani stated that both countries must forget past and look to the future.

We have overcome challenges of 30 years in 3 days, he added.

President Ghani termed the partnership between Afghanistan and Pakistan as an important pillar of Afghan s foreign policy.

Earlier today, a meeting between Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took place at PM House in Islamabad. The two sides discussed means to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.

Since becoming president at the end of September, Ashraf Ghani has visited China, Saudi Arabia and now Pakistan.
