Summary PM Nawaz and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani are holding formal talks to promote bilateral ties.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Meeting between newly-elected Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is underway at PM House in Islamabad.
Both leaders are holding formal talks to promote bilateral relations in the realm of security, trade and economy. The two sides are holding discussions on way and means to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.
Upon his arrival at the PM House, a smartly turned out contingent of the armed forces presented guard of honor to the visiting dignitary amd anthems of both the countries were played as well.
Earlier on Friday, President Ghani along with Defence Minister General Bismillah Muhammadi, Afghan Chief of General Staff, General Sher Muhammad Karimi and senior Afghan security officials visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
National Security Advisor Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Secretary Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Defence Secretary Lieutenant General (Retired) Alam Khattak and DG ISI Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar were also present at the GHQ.
Afghan delegation was given detailed briefing on security situation on the Pak-Afghan border.
Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism and sacrifices rendered by the nation. He said that Afghanistan wants to bolster security and defence ties with Pakistan including cooperation in training and border management. He also assured of Afghan cooperation to jointly curb the menace of terrorism.
