Summary PAT rejected the newly formed committee citing lack of confidence in JIT head.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab government on Thursday formed a joint investigation team (JIT) headed by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema to probe the Model Town tragedy. Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has rejected the team once again, Dunya News reported.
According to the details, Punjab government has issued the notification of creation of the JIT comprising five members from the police along with three other members including members from intelligence agencies. The investigation team will investigate against all accused including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and provincial ministers.
At least three names i.e. former Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Aftab Cheema, CCPO Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema and Additional IG Shahid Hayat were under consideration for the appointment of JIT head.
PAT had consented to appoint an officer from any province other than Punjab to ensure transparency; even then, they have rejected the newly formed JIT.
PAT spokesperson said that their party had given three names from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province but they were not included, adding that Balochistan and Sindh also have Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) influence.
It merits mentioning here that CCPO Quetta belongs to Punjab and has served as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Lahore in the past.
