Summary PTI has proposed the name of Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid after party consultation, says Qureshi.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Vice chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi met opposition leader National Assembly Khursheed Shah Today (Friday) at his Islamabad residence for consultation over appointment of new Chief Election Commission (CEC).

Talking to the media after the meeting, Khursheed Shah said PTI had reservations on general election 2013 and they had a consultation over the names of new CEC during the meeting.

He said it was his responsibility to consult opposition parties along with the government and it is his constitutional right to choose to talk to any political party he desires and inform the government about it.

Khursheed Shah vowed to solve the matter with honesty and in good faith so it does not turn into a hassle.

CEC must be appointed with consensus, he added.

On the occasion, Shah Mehmood said all political parties have consent over transparent elections and the demand for electoral reforms it is therefore imperative to instate an unbiased, independent and free election commission.

He said people have rebuffed the results of elections 2013 and if elections be held under the same election commission, they would not accept the results.

Qureshi said that they have grave reservations on a few names as those personalities have had political affiliations in the past adding that they reserve the right to protest in case such a CEC gets appointed.

We respect the names suggested by Khursheed Shah but PTI has proposed the name of Justice (Retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid after party consultation, he added.

Qureshi said that appointment of CEC is not only a constitutional matter but a political one too.

He further said that government delayed negotiations while PTI is still ready to communicate.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced establishment of a judicial commission over rigging, we would wrap up the sit-in if proved otherwise, he added.

Qureshi condemned the hue and cry at chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s rally in London stating that every political party has the right to conduct rallies.

Khurshid Shah had suggested the names of Justice (Retd) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui, Justice (Retd) Rana Bhagwan Das and Justice (Retd) Tassud Hussian Jilani whereas Justice (Retd) Ajmal Mian’s name was added later on.
