Summary Strict security measures have been adopted for Muharram processions across Pakistan.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Mourning processions are taking place across the country amid tight security on Monday to commemorate ninth of Muharram.
In Karachi, main procession will be taken out from Nishtar Park at 1:00pm and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Hall. All routes for the procession have been sealed with shipping containers, whereas, more than 18,000 policemen have been deployed for the security.
Snipers will be deployed on rooftops while routes will sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squad will ensure clearance of the routes.
Also, a quick response force comprising police and Rangers personnel has been deployed in sensitive areas. KMC and Police Command & Control Room will monitor situation with the help of more than 300 CCTV cameras.
Mobile phone services will remain suspended till 10:00pm tonight and ban on pillion ride has also been imposed.
In Lahore, two Muharram processions were taken from Pando Street and Nicholson Road amid tight security. Mobile phone services remain suspended in different areas of the city.
Moreover, 146 processions will be taken out in Multan. 2,947 policemen have been deployed to avert any untoward incident.
Main Muharram procession will be taken out from Hussainia Hall Saddar in Peshawar. All shops in Saddar area are closed while routes have been cleared for the rally. Mobile phone services have been suspended in Cantt area.
Second major procession will be taken out from Alamdar Karbala Kucha Rasaldar at 10:00pm.
In Quetta, 9th Muharram procession will be taken out from Imambargah Nasirul Aza at Mekangi Road. On the occasion, cellular networks will be suspended in eight districts.
