MULTAN (Web Desk) – Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mhemood Qureshi on Saturday blamed district administration for deaths of seven people during stampede at PTI rally, Dunya News reported.

Talking to media, Shah Mehmood Qureshi stated that venue of PTI rally was changed under a well-thought-out plan. The incident has occurred at a time when by-election is going to take place in NA-149 constituency of Multan.

He said District Coordination Officer (DCO) is giving false statement.

“This incident took place because of the negligence of the local administration. We hold it responsible for this tragedy at our rally,” said Shah Mahmood Qureshi

It was responsibility of the local administration to provide security. Police forced people to climb on the stage, he added.

Senior PTI leader said that ladder for Imran Khan to climb up on stage also disappeared at the eleventh hour.

The stampede happened late Friday at Ibne Qasim Bagh Stadium in the city of Multan in eastern Punjab province.  The rally, including a speech byPTI Chief Imran Khan, had just ended when party supporters tried to push their way out of one of the gates at stadium.

The melee quickly evolved into a stampede in which seven people were crushed to death and about 40 injured. Khan had left the stadium before the incident.

The victims were shifted to the city’s main Nishtar Hospital. Police said over 40,000 people had attended the rally.
