Summary Flight EK-609 caught fire due to a short circuit before departure, passengers said.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A Dubai-bound flight via a foreign airlines  aircraft, EK-609, caught fire at the time of departure, which is why Karachi Airport’s operations were suspended, Dunya News reported. The fire started when the plane was ready to take off from the runway.

According to sources, on-board passengers started running around in a haphhazard manner when the aircraft caught fire, and even some passengers had to make emergency exits via windows. Immediately after the aircraft caught fire, fire tenders reached the scene and contained the fire.

Operations were halted at the airport and all other flights were suspended.

According to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials, all passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft, and then they were shifted to the airport lounge. An alternative flight to Dubai was being arranged for the passengers, they added.

The passengers said that a short circuit was responsible for the fire, and the entire plane was consumed by smoke, which suffocated them.

Official investigation regarding the incident has been initiated by the CAA.
