SRINAGAR (Web Desk) –Indian Army on Tuesday rescued a 28-member Pakistani golf team from the flood-hit areas of Srinagar in Indian Kashmir. Denying the reports by NDTV quoting Indian Army officials that the Pakistani golf team was in Srinagar to participate in a SAARC golf tournament, Punjab Golf authorities have announced on Wednesday that the news about their participation in SAARC tournament is incorrect.
According to media reports, Pakistani golf team members were trapped in their hotel which was hit by gushing flood waters.
Indian Express quoted Faiza Malik from Lahore who was part of the team as saying “By the time we reached the second floor, the first floor was completely filled with water. Water kept rushing through the windows all night. It was frightening.”
The Pakistani team was airlifted by the Indian Army and evacuated to Nehru Park helipad from where they were to be taken to the airport. The Indian army had taken a record of the addresses and passport numbers of all the Pakistani nationals.
Massive floods have also hit parts of Indian Kashmir killing at least 420 people. However, as per reports more than 6 lakh people still remain trapped in the flood-ravaged areas. The Indian army has deployed more than 20,000 troops and 61 aircrafts in carrying out the rescue operations. The army has ordered its units to help out people in distress and claims that so far more than 47000 people have been rescued.
