ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Talking at the occasion of the new judicial year at the Supreme Court on Monday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasirul Mulk the court may revise state institutions’ act of snubbing the freedom of the people.

No society can flourish without law; judiciary shall remain submitted to the constitution and would also ensure that state institutions submit to the constitution as well, he added.

Justice Nasirul Mulk said that no one is to consider their constitutional power as absolute; any constitutional right can anytime be curbed.

He clarified that judges are not only supposed to interpret the constitution but discourage every act of its violation.

Chief Justice emphasized that it has been repetitively uttered that no person or institution is above the law. Law can only hail in the country when judiciary follows it with complete honesty. We shall try our best to deliver unbiased, immediate justice and would not compromise on the prevalence of law.

Rights and responsibilities are two side of a single coin and cannot survive without either of them. Bar’s role is pivotal to ensure human rights and gave assurance that there would be no delay in providing justice, he added.

He further said that this judicial year is highly significant and shall prove to be a milestone in the history. The judiciary has vowed to protect this constitution without any apprehension.

We have all gathered to review previous year’s performance. Peace cannot be ensured negating the law. We shall concentrate on the future strategy to guarantee justice, he added.

Talking figures, he stated that 13, 872 cases were handled by the Supreme Court and 17,491 new cases have been brought before the Supreme Court whereas almost 20,000 cases are still pending.
