ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Judicial commission has still not been formed to probe the election rigging despite Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s announcement, Dunya News reported.

The Law Minister has not yet received the names of the judges for the three-member judicial commission to be formed to probe election rigging. Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif announced formation of judicial commission in his address to the nation. The ‎government had decided to formulate a judicial commission comprising three ‎SC judges. The Cabinet Division would provide secretariat support to the judicial ‎commission.‎

According to sources, the names of three judges to form judicial commission have not been provided by the Supreme Court of Pakistan despite law minister’s request to suggest names. Sources have revealed that from Monday, sixteen judges of the Supreme Court will be present in Islamabad as Justice Nasirul Mulk wants to seek their advice before sending in the suggested names.

Earlier, the federal government Secretary of Law and ‎Justice had petitioned to the Supreme Court (SC) Registrar for the ‎formation of a three-member judicial commission to investigate the rigging of ‎‎2013 elections.‎

According to the text of the petition, the federal government is allowed to create a ‎commission under the Inquiry Act 1956, hence, the federal government has ‎decided to formulate a commission to investigate the claims of Pakistan ‎Tehreek-e-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan pertaining to the rigging of 2013 ‎elections.‎
