Summary Police provoked reactionary violence by PAT workers, MQM said.
KARACHI (Dunya News) -- Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabta Committee grieved over the shocking news of a clash between Pakistani Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and the police in Lahore while commenting that suppressing protests through the ‘state muscle’ is not democratic in nature at all.
In a joint statement, MQM appealed to political parties to achieve their motives through peaceful means rather than using violence as a political tool for ‘ulterior motives’. It further added that the right to protest is a fundamental constitutional right of every political party.
The statement further said the siege of Minhajul Quran secretariat as well as PAT chairperson Dr.Tahirul Qadri’s house since the last two days is cruel and unwarranted, whereas MQM has repeatedly demanded this illegal siege should be removed, but their demands were ignored by the government. On the contrary, the police aggression towards PAT workers promoted reactionary violence from the workers, which resulted in a lot of bloodshed, MQM said.
MQM also appealed to the demonstrators that they should refrain from using violence and use peaceful means of protest instead.
