Summary Justice Khalid Mehmood orders formation of larger bench to hear petition filed against Azadi March.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC)’s Justice Khalid Mehmood has ordered formation of larger bench to hear the petition seeking a restraining order against “Azadi March”.
The petitioner’s lawyer A K Dogar took a stance that Azadi March on August 14 will become a cause of political turmoil and create more differences between the political parties. Moreover, he argued that Azadi March will invite intervention of anti-democratic forces. Additional Attorney general Naseer Ahmed Bhutta told the court that the opposition parties have not yet granted an application permitting Azadi March. The matter will be looked into once the application for Azadi March permission is received.
Justice Khalid Mehmood while ordering formation of larger bench to hear the case filed to stop Azadi March, said that the issue is very sensitive and should be handled carefully.
Earlier yesterday, Justice Khalik Mehmood Khan of LHC had sought assistance of attorney general and advocate general Punjab to decide the maintainability of the petition seeking a restraining order against “Azadi March”. Justice Khan, during the hearing on Wednesday asked the petitioner’s counsel if the court could pass an order to the government to stop Azadi March. The counsel stated that the maintainability of the petition will be decided before further proceedings. The judge ordered to resume hearing on Thursday.
