Summary Punjab govt registers FIR against Qadri for inciting violence
LAHORE (Dunya News) -- The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has served a notice to Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri of tax demand amounting to Rs.400 million arrears while the Punjab government has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Qadri charging him for inciting violence and enraging the public.
The tax demand has purportedly been created based on the income of Minhaj-ul-Quran, which has not been utilized for welfare purposes for which the trust had been established. FBR has further required the Minhajul Quran trust to pay outstanding arrears before 15 August, and has conveyed legal intention to seize accounts for recovery of government dues. Consequent upon these proceedings, FBR has shown intention of closure of all the offices of Minhajul Quran situated in the country. Further proceedings in the case are ongoing and as a result, if another tax demand is created the same shall be recovered along with penalty levied thereon.
According to government sources, Qadri’s public sermons and statements come under the ambit of civil disobedience, which is why a case was registered against him. The FIR was registered at the Data Durbar police station against Qadri for encouraging rebellion in the country.
